Legislative Committee

Atlee Reilly, Esq. Chair

Follows the ongoing legislature for bills that have an impact on juvenile justice, and the juvenile justice system. Presents these bills to the JJAG Board and keeps them informed of the bills progress. Assists in conducting professional trainings on law changes and updates.

Meets the first Tuesday of the month at 8:00 AM.

Executive Committee

Jill Ward Co-Chair

Comprised of the chairs of the other JJAG Board committees and sets the agenda for JJAG Board meetings. May also recommend funding opportunities consistent with 3-year plan and in support of the structure and function of the JJAG, suggest guest speakers for the benefit of the JJAG Board, and assist in professional training opportunities.

Meets the Monday before the monthly JJAG Board meeting.

Governance Committee

Bonnie Porta Co-Chair

Oversees development of and revisions to JJAG policies and practices, including regular review of the bylaws for the JJAG Board. Guides nomination process and helps recruit candidates to recommend to the Governor for appointment to the JJAG Board. Assists in the training of new JJAG Board members. May also assist Specialist with OJJDP compliance as directed.

Meets the first Monday of the month at 4:30 PM.

Racial & Ethnic Disparities Committee

Christopher Northrop Co-Chair

Develops plan to assess and reduce racial and ethnics disparities in Maine’s youth justice system. This includes studying the data and related issues of racial and ethnic disparities in Maine, educating the JJAG Board and other key stakeholders on the impact of disparities on the BIPOC communities in Maine, and bringing recommendations to address disparities forward for support and/or action. May recommend funding for projects that lower the disparities impact on BIPOC communities in Maine consistent with the JJAG 3-year plan.

Meets the second Tuesday of the month at 4:30 PM.

Systems Improvement Committee

Luc Nya Co-Chair

Leads development of JJAG 3-year plan, including identifying areas where JJAG investment can have impact to improve the youth justice system in Maine. Recommends funding for projects consistent with the 3-year plan to improve the system and youth outcomes.

Meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 PM.
